Pitching Event

June 3rd 2014

HEC Alumni Ventures – X UK – Centrale UK

More than 90 members of audience joined 6 startups in the pitching event organised by HEC Alumni Ventures UK in London. Organised by the combined efforts of HEC Alumni Ventures, Centrale and Polytechnique, the event showcased startups from a varied arena – ranging from computer accessories to sports, online gaming, tailoring, and even social networking for parents.

The Rainmaking Loft with its very spacious facilities dedicated to startups and located at the heart of London next to the Tower Bridge was a very apt representation of the ambition of HEC Alumni Ventures to support as a launching platform for global startups.

The evening started with an introduction by Guillaume de Pommereau about the activities of the group and the plan for the evening and the kick off presentation to begin was from ORÉE – an innovative startup striding into redefining design for computer and phone accessories. With beautiful Maplewood keyboard and marble pebble charging wireless charging station, this startup provides a radical alternative to the alternative plastic and aluminium devices available currently. Founded in July 2012, the next startup on the stage was Geronimo. With 3 app already released for mobile gaming and target £250k in equity, this team of 8 is aiming to take the gaming world on  Facebook, iOS and Android by storm leveraging ‘traffic magnet’ media such as movie clips, music and catchy news which are viral on the Internet and turn them into addictive casual games.

Following this was Kikast! Kikast.com lets every sports fan commentate a game live from home using their webcam. Based on Freemium model, the startup is targeting sports fans (subscription) and sport-related brands (advertising), and offers not just commentary facilities to individuals but also devices and equipment to augment their revenue stream. The number of engaging questions from the audience was a quick measure of the excitement they could generate instantly! (www.kikast.com)

We had Tailorissimo next: www.tailorissimo.com is an online platform in French, English, Spanish, German, Italian and Turkish to allow anyone to design and create a tailor made shirt in less than 5 minutes and to receive it at home by post. Balancing sophistication vs convenience, this startup aims at branded and premium retail shirts buyers with sophisticated needs and digital habits in Europe. (www.tailorissimo.com)

The last two startups to engage the crowd were AssesUp and School-Gate. While AssesUp presented a new paradigm in ‘social recruiting’ with an objective method to detect and promote talented professionals, School-Gate.com showcased their ‘secure’ and independent communication platform exclusively for parents.

The evening continued with fervent conversation over food and drinks amongst the startups and members of the audience. The event was broadcast realtime on Twitter (@HECAlumVentures), Facebook.com/HECAlumniVentures and even on LinkedIn group for HEC Alumni Ventures.
